Original Story

The decision to organize the September 17, 2010 Holy Mass in the church of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, said the Greek-American Chris Spirou, Chairman of "World Parish of St. Sophia, at a press conference today at the European Parliament building in Athens.

The pilgrimage, in addition to members of the "World Parish of St. Sophia, involving representatives from the U.S. and the European Council for the Restoration of the historic church.

Chris Spirou, published the letter sent to Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, to inform him about this move and invited him to participate in this "historic" as the manifest, "worldwide pilgrimage and prayer in the Bible Sofia after 556 years.

"We believe, Prime Minister, that the global pilgrimage and service in the church of Hagia Sophia will be the trigger for a global summit on peace and coexistence," states, inter alia, the letter from Mr Spyros .

On his letter to the Prime Minister of Turkey, Mr. Spiro has notified the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, Foreign Minister of the United States, Hillary Clinton, President of European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, President of Committee of Ministers of the European Council, Samuel Bogkar and the ambassadors of Turkey in Washington and Athens."

Elias Commentary

Such optimism is rare. Maybe Mr. Chris Spirou knows something the rest of the world doesn't. I really pray for his success.

However Erdogan, Ki-Moon, Clinton, Barrosso, Bogkar and a bunch of ambassadors couldn't give a hoot whether or not the museum of Sancta Sofia was ever used again as anything other than a tourist attraction. This is the sad truth about the world. Religion and in particular Christianity and specifically Orthodoxy to these people is nothing more than a means to an end.

Pray for the restoration of Holy Wisdom Church. Pray for our Holy Patriarchs. And pray for the peace of the world.
